Pre-Workshop Tasks
Please do the following before the first day of the workshop (January 14).
- Watch “Minds of Our Own” clip from this link: https://www.learner.org/series/minds-of-our-own/
Scroll down and click on a program to watch at least the first 30 min of one of these clips (whichever you prefer):
- “1. Can we believe our eyes?” -- based on physics concept
- “2. Lessons from thin air” -- based on biology concept
[You are welcome to watch the whole clip(s) if you have time!]
While you watch, please take notes on the following:
- What do you think are the main messages of these video clips?
- What did you find in the video very striking / surprising?
- Please complete this RTOP questionnaire, ASSUMING that you are observing yourself in a TYPICAL class that you have recently taught.
- Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP) was originally developed as an observation tool to provide a standardized means for detecting the degree that a class is reformed.
We will ask you to fill this questionnaire out three times throughout the two-phases workshop program. The aim is to see how your teaching practice may (or may not) change, as well as to assess the effectiveness of the workshop.
(Reference: http://physicsed.buffalostate.edu/AZTEC/RTOP/RTOP_full/about_RTOP.html)

This survey is designed to help you while creating a lesson plan during the workshop.
