Pre-Workshop Tasks

Please do the following before the first day of the workshop (September 4).

  1. Watch “Minds of Our Own” clip from this link: http://www.learner.org/resources/series26.html
  2. Scroll down and click on a “Vod” button to watch at least the first 30 min of one of these clips (whichever you prefer):
    • “1. Can we believe our eyes?” -- based on physics concept
    • “2. Lessons from thin air” -- based on biology concept
    •    [You are welcome to watch the whole clip(s) if you have time!]

    Please take notes on the following:
    • What do you think are the main messages of these video clips?
    • What did you find in the video very striking / surprising?

  3. Please complete this Teaching Goal Inventory for a freshman-level course that you teach. Please write your course name AND your name (e.g., “PHYS101 John”). After completing, please generate the report, save the report page as a PDF file, and upload the file from this link.

  4. Please think about your course and list the following in this online form:
    • 3 topics that students find difficult to learn
    • 3 teaching strategies that are working well and you would like to keep
    • other course elements that are working well and you would like to keep
    • 3 challenges that you would like to address

  • We will be using Google drive during the workshop. If you do not have a google account associated with your email, please sign up for one from this link before the workshop.

  • Please bring your laptop or tablet to the workshop sessions.

The workshop will take place in Sabancı University Tuzla Campus, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) building, Room G055.
